The National Disaster Management Network of Nepal (DiMaNN) recently held a series of meetings in Baraha Kshetra Municipality with municipal and ward-level leaders to discuss disaster preparedness and risk reduction efforts. The discussions involved Mr. Ramesh Karki, Mayor of Baraha Kshetra Municipality, as well as Ward Chairpersons Mr. Kisan Thapa and Mr. Hom Prasad Gautam.
The dialogue focused on the current disaster situation in the municipality, efforts by the local government and wards for disaster risk reduction (DRR), ongoing activities by DiMaNN, and collaboration and partnership strategies to strengthen community resilience. Participants also reviewed initiatives implemented in partnership with GEF and local organizations, including community meetings, river embankment construction, solar fencing to prevent wildlife conflict, tower installation, tree planting, and livelihood-support activities, all designed to reduce disaster risks and enhance local preparedness.
Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DiMaNN, highlighted that building resilient communities requires a strong partnership between local governments, community organizations, and civil society. He emphasized that proactive measures such as infrastructure improvement, environmental protection, and community engagement are critical in reducing disaster risks and ensuring sustainable development. Mr. Thapa also stressed the importance of continued monitoring, capacity-building, and strategic collaboration to make these initiatives effective at the grassroots level.
In this program, DiMaNN reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with municipal authorities, local organizations, and community groups to ensure that disaster risk reduction efforts are integrated, inclusive, and locally sustainable, ultimately strengthening Nepal’s community resilience.
