DiMaNN Re-Nominated as Coordinator for NGO Sector Group
March 12, 2025, Kathmandu – The National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) convened a meeting of the NGOs Subjective Group. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of sectoral coordination and resulted in the re-nomination of the National Disaster Management Network of Nepal (DiMaNN) as the coordinator for the NGO Sector Group.
The NGOs Subjective Group is one of the nine key sectoral groups under NPDRR, which includes government, semi-government, INGOs, national NGOs, UN agencies and donors, media and technology, disaster-affected communities, private sector, and academia and researchers. Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DiMaNN, underscored the objectives of the sectoral group within NPDRR and elaborated on the crucial role of NGOs in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). Additionally, Dr. Raju Thapa, Chair and Member Secretary of NPDRR, highlighted the significance of NPDRR, its role, and ongoing activities aimed at strengthening DRR efforts in Nepal.
The meeting saw participation from various civil society networks and NGO representatives. One of its key outcomes was the formation of the Sectorial Committee of NGOs, led by Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, with multiple NGOs elected as members. This sectoral group will function voluntarily to enhance coordination, networking, knowledge exchange, information sharing, resource mobilization, and collective action in DRR initiatives across Nepal. Among the major decisions taken during the meeting were establishing a combined roster to document and track NGO efforts following earthquakes and floods, which will be compiled and submitted to NPDRR and NDRRMA, organizing issue-based discussions to address key challenges in disaster risk reduction, and conducting regular sharing meetings to facilitate collaboration among stakeholders.
