Background: In 2023, DiMaNN (Disaster Management Network Nepal) initiated the establishment of a Humanitarian Resource Center (HRC) to serve as a central hub for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. This project was launched in coordination with multiple government agencies, NGOs, and international stakeholders.

Objective: The main goal of the HRC was to provide up-to-date information, resources, and support to all stakeholders involved in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and humanitarian activities across Nepal. This platform was designed to enable real-time interaction between government officials, civil society leaders, and humanitarian actors.

Activities:

  • A physical resource center was established in Kathmandu, equipped with technological infrastructure, training materials, and communication tools.
  • A digital interaction platform was also created to facilitate communication among stakeholders during emergencies.
  • Regular workshops and information-sharing sessions were held to train local representatives and humanitarian organizations on how to utilize the platform effectively.

Outcome: The HRC has significantly improved coordination during natural disasters, particularly in flood and landslide-prone areas. The digital platform has allowed for quicker response times and better resource management during emergencies.

Impact:

  • Over 200 local government officials and humanitarian workers have been trained on the system.
  • It has become a key resource during the monsoon floods of 2024, ensuring better communication between affected areas and central authorities.
