The 26 August 2026 Bhotekoshi flash flood appears to have been triggered by a large-scale ice, rock, and soil mass failure in the Deding/Langtang region, rather than by intense localized rainfall alone. Preliminary information indicates that the failed mass may have temporarily obstructed the river, forming a natural dam for approximately 18–19 hours. The temporary dam reportedly breached at around 8:30–8:37 a.m. on 26 August, releasing a large volume of water together with ice, rock, sediment, and other debris downstream.

Since the onset of the disaster, DiMaNN and its member organizations have been actively engaged in various relief, humanitarian support, information-sharing, and community-level response initiatives in the affected areas. DiMaNN has also been supporting coordination and advocating for timely, needs-based, accountable, and equitable assistance to disaster-affected communities. DiMaNN Chair, Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, has participated in several television interviews and public discussions, continuously advocating for the rights, protection, and legitimate needs of disaster-affected communities, including the need for timely rescue, relief, recovery support, transparent assistance, and stronger disaster preparedness and early-warning systems.
