The National Disaster Management Network of Nepal (DiMaNN) convened a meeting in Janakpur with its partners from Udayapur District and the NGO Federation Nepal, Madhesh Province. The discussion focused on DRRM, humanitarian safety, and the critical role of volunteers in social service and citizen protection.
Participants emphasized the continuous dedication of volunteers who serve communities with selfless commitment. The dialogue highlighted the need for volunteer safety, formal recognition, identity, and the sustainability of local civil society organizations and federations to ensure long-term effectiveness in both disaster response and community development.
Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DiMaNN, underscored the crucial role of volunteers in disaster risk reduction. He highlighted that volunteers are the backbone of effective DRR at the community level, providing immediate response, raising awareness, and helping communities prepare for and mitigate disaster risks. Recognizing, supporting, and empowering these volunteers is essential for building resilient and disaster-ready communities across Nepal.
The meeting underscored the vital role of civil society and federations in protecting volunteers, strengthening institutional capacities, and promoting coordinated action to enhance community resilience and human security across Nepal.
