The National Disaster Management Network of Nepal (DiMaNN), led by its Chairperson, Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, held a meeting with Mr. Takeshi Komino, Chairperson of the Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN), to discuss key issues related to disaster risk reduction and management, humanitarian response, community resilience, and opportunities for collaboration between the two networks.

The discussion focused on strengthening disaster preparedness and response mechanisms, improving coordination among government institutions and civil society organizations, and enhancing the role of community-based organizations in disaster risk reduction and humanitarian action. In the context of Nepal’s recurring climate-related hazards and the recent Rasuwa–Bhotekoshi floods, the meeting highlighted the importance of effective early warning systems, timely risk communication, coordinated emergency response, and inclusive recovery and reconstruction processes that address the needs and priorities of disaster-affected communities.

Another important area of discussion was the localisation of humanitarian action and the meaningful engagement of national and local civil society organizations in disaster management. The meeting underscored the value of locally led initiatives, community knowledge, inclusive participation, accountability, and sustained investment in community resilience. Strengthening the capacities of local organizations and enabling them to contribute to decision-making and humanitarian coordination were recognized as important steps towards more effective, equitable, and sustainable disaster risk management.

The discussion further explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration between DiMaNN and ADRRN through knowledge and experience sharing, capacity development, networking, joint advocacy, and regional cooperation. Such collaboration can help connect community-level experiences and locally led solutions in Nepal with regional learning and good practices across Asia. It can also support the development and dissemination of practical approaches to disaster preparedness, risk reduction, humanitarian response, and resilient recovery.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of strong partnerships among national and regional civil society networks in addressing increasingly complex disaster risks. Through continued cooperation, DiMaNN and ADRRN aim to strengthen locally led disaster risk reduction, promote inclusive and accountable humanitarian action, and contribute to building more resilient communities in Nepal and across the Asia-Pacific region.
