The National Disaster Management Network of Nepal (DiMaNN) has supported the successful establishment of a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Localization Resource Center in Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality, marking a significant milestone in strengthening local disaster governance and enhancing community resilience.
According to DiMaNN, the initiative reflects a growing commitment among local governments to institutionalize disaster preparedness and empower communities at the grassroots level.
Speaking in this context, Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DiMaNN, highlighted the organization’s long-standing focus on DRR localization and community-centered disaster management. He emphasized that resource centers at the local level serve as critical platforms for awareness, preparedness training, and strengthening the capacity for immediate rescue and relief operations.
Mr. Thapa added that the progress demonstrated by Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality sets an encouraging precedent for other municipalities across Nepal. He noted that localized institutions are essential to ensuring that disaster response begins where it is needed most at the community level.
DiMaNN has expressed its readiness to collaborate with additional local governments nationwide and has called upon development partners to support the establishment of similar DRR resource centers. According to the organization, investing in local institutions is key to improving preparedness, raising awareness, and building resilient communities capable of responding swiftly and effectively to disasters.
